Miranda Rectenwald, a curator of local history at Washington University, discovered the amazing tale of Victor Gilbertson who was awarded the Steedman Fellowship in 1939 and traveled around Europe during the early years of World War II. She recently recalled her 2013 article in a series about local St.Louis history. You can read Miranda’s article Everything May Yet Turn Out Alright: An Architect’s Adventure in Europe (1939-1940) via her original 2013 article in The Confluence. For more information about this story contact Miranda Rectenwald or for additional resources about the Steedman Fellowship’s past visit the Steedman Fellowship in  Architectural Competition Collection.
